Religious freedom is tied to the freedom to communicate. This blog examines the religious rights of people who want to worship aloud-- whether it be through religious speech or practices-- and whether or not they're actually allowed to do so within certain countries.
The Christmas cartoon is the one that really makes me sad. Christmas is a Christian holiday that people have the right to celebrate and talk about, as much as any other religious holiday. A movement toward "Happy Holidays" alone is very generic, and does not allow for a melting pot of religious cultures to celebrate as they wish.
I feel like the Christmas cartoon was possibly a satirical comment on the movement to ban "one nation under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. I believe there was a father that started the movement because he was upset that his children had to go to school everyday and repeat those words, something which he didn't believe in. I feel like sometimes people can be overtly sensitive and we need to make sure we are careful about some of the things we ban and change because it can eventually spiral out of control and who knows, maybe one day someone will be sent to the principal's office for saying Christmas?
